As a parent, there is nothing more frightening than when your grown children start venturing out in the world. I always try to keep up on the news for the areas they are in (Google alerts work well). So far they have met military coups, hurricanes, had scooter accidents, (and likely a few things they have neglected to tell me). But today, my son Daniel - freshly back from the hurricane in Baja - is in Panama...and I havent heard from him since the earthquake. So I thought I would look in a local paper for news and found that a Canadian tourist had just drowned there. I gasped in horror, and started trying to reach someone for news. Fortunately my youngest translated the whole article to find the name, which was not Daniel. But it was too late for me - I had already sobbed frantically while I tried to find out if he was OK.. I can hardly concentrate now because I only know that he was not the one who drowned, and not that he is safe somewhere. I am sure that he is just happily driving to Costa Rica, oblivious to the torture he inflicting upon me. *sigh*
