As a person who made 50 -60 % of my fellow Holy Cross graduates because I loved what I did and I planned on having a modest lifestyle on retirement it would be a disaster for me if Social Security is reduced. As it is I am spending one third, thats right 1/3 of my retirement take home pay on health care. I am working as an assistant professor and that money is making it OK. But when I fully retire I will not be able to remain in my home if I get less that the Social Security I have planned on and will have to continue to work until the end of my life practically. At the same time there is an income limit for contributing to SS. If that was raised there would be no problem with maintaining the SS benefits for the foreseeable future. In addition there is still more than a decade where SS can be fully paid and still have a surplus. The right wing is winning the argument to make it harder for the middle and lower classes while still subsidizing corporations like big oil companies.
