As a result of Prashant Bhushans PIL against the gas pricing, Supreme Court has asked the Central Government that why did it choose the complex Rangarajan formula for gas pricing which takes the price of gas to over $8 when it could have adopted simpler methods like cost-plus pricing or revenue-sharing through which the price will be much lesser. SC also asks how Niko, who is partners with RIL able to sell gas in Bangladesh at $2.3, which is half the current price in India. This follows Election Commissions decision to defer the natural gas pricing till the end of elections, following AAPs letter to the EC. It is interesting that both BJP & Congress have been consistent in maintaining their silence over this issue which impacts all aspects of lives of the ordinary citizens.
