As a result of the highly patrachial society we live in, women often bear the brunt of poverty in the homes. A woman sells her wrappers, her trinkets in order to feed her children whenever the family fortunes take a turn for the worse. The girl child is usually the first one sent away to serve as a househelp, hawk, or live with a distant relative, while the boy stays at home, the girl child is asked to stop school while the boy goes to school. It is therefore no wonder that females rank very high among victims of human trafficking and child abuse. Poverty becomes feminized in most societies. However, we all can change this mindset, educate and empower the girl child! NAPTIP says so!!
