As a student and beginner translator of Tibetan Buddhist texts, - TopicsExpress

As a student and beginner translator of Tibetan Buddhist texts, there appears to be a pervasive tendency for English translations to use the pronoun he, even though there is no pronoun used in the Tibetan text. When referring to the qualities of Buddha/enlightenment, in the Uttaratantra for example, the English translation does not use gender neutral pronouns but continually refers to he and man (instead of humans). Such biased use of language subtly perpetuates the wrong idea that women cannot attain enlightenment and that Buddha has a gender. Buddha and enlightenment have no gender.
