As a teacher for children with special needs for 25 years I am appalled but not surprised by this arrogance & ignorance. The lack of sensitivity is alarming however. My only hope is that parents and teachers advocate for their children and we not fall back in time and ignore the obvious needs of this diverse population of students. Team written IEPs must trump all of Duncans and Huffmans high bar for ignorance, insensitivity, and just plain flat out stupidity. I plan on continuing to write those IEPs & advocate for my students individual needs, + mental health and physical well being with pen, voice and knowledge that in doing so I am not doing harm to the most vulnerable. I too have often said if my students could perform at grade level they would not be in my class etc and variety of statements like this.. Looks like I need a t-shirt and and a much louder voice….grrrr.
