As a veteran I will say that it is very special to hear from friends who appreciate my service time in the military. It is also special when establishments express their appreciation for veterans. Yesterday I drove my car to the car wash only to find out that they were offering free washes to veterans. Excellent! I had dinner at the Outback Steakhouse last night. Because I am a veteran my party enjoyed a free Bloomin Onion (Yummy!) and a free beverage. Thank you to the many different restaurants who gave free food to veterans. An 85 year old veteran friend of mine had a not so nice story to share with me today however. He checked on line to see where he could have a complimentary dinner. He discovered on Dennys web site that they were offering free meals to veterans for the day. He and his wife drove to the restaurant local to his home in Lakeland, Florida only to be told that it only applied to pancakes. The free meals offered on the web site were from last year. He ordered the pancakes and also wanted to add a couple of eggs and hash brown potatoes to his order. The waitress took his order and later brought his bill to the table. The pancakes were charged on his bill. He carried the bill to the cashier thinking that there was a mistake. The cashier informed him that because he ordered the other items that his pancakes were not free either. Say WHAT?!! He had to pay for the pancakes because he ordered other food as well?!! He was VERY disappointed to discover that Dennys would have misleading information on their web page and then they would mislead him/disrespect him to his face right there in the restaurant. What a shame. I will never eat in a Dennys restaurant again. Free food or not!!
