As a young child I often jokingly called my mother Colleen Smith - TopicsExpress

As a young child I often jokingly called my mother Colleen Smith Farrell a cyborg or basically half human, half machine. I called her this because of her constant prevailing over any and all health issues regardless of the issue or degree. At the age of 5 years old she was diagnosed with diabetes. She had instances where her blood sugar would drop to the point of almost death but she would conjure up the inner strength to get sugar in her system to get her level back up. As i grew up and was out of the house more there were a few instances that she stayed alive just long enough for me to come in the door in time to supply her with what she needed to get herself back together. When I left the nest and later down the years she obtained both a kidney and a pancreas transplant basically curing her diabetes. She has had multiple other surgeries and even a heart attack. Whenever I would come to see my mother she never acted or showed shed been through any of that. The last 3 days have been a reality check for me. Humans are not machines. Ironically a Machine is currently keeping my mother alive. As I look at my mother I just cant help but just think Cmon mom, get them damn tubes off you and lets roll out Thats not reality although with her strength and will power of the past it hopefully will be eventually. Learning from personal experiences in my past with my Father passing, set aside your differences between you and your loved ones. Pick up the phone. Get in your car. Tell them you love them if you havent for a while. Tell them a joke and make them smile. You never know when the machine will stop working.
