"As almost any teacher would agree, test scores alone cannot tell - TopicsExpress

"As almost any teacher would agree, test scores alone cannot tell the full story of how successful–or unsuccessful–a teacher is. However, sometimes it seems that everyone else in America disagrees. So I say, fine; let’s do it. Let’s use test scores and nothing but test scores to evaluate teachers. However, let’s do it across the board for every class, every subject, everywhere. That’s fair, right? We’ll start with physical education. The student who runs a 13-minute mile at the start of the year better shave three minutes off his or her time by the end. Students overweight by thirty to forty pounds when they walk into class need to shed that weight steadily throughout the year. What do you mean the physical education teachers can’t control what the students eat at home? So what if the only exercise, practice, and instruction the student ever receives is less than an hour a day from his or her teacher? If the teacher is “effective,” none of this should matter."
