As an early adopter of craft beer, back when it took some - TopicsExpress

As an early adopter of craft beer, back when it took some determination to find, its pretty amazing to see how far it has come. In fact, when I attended the massive Beer Camp at Navy Pier a couple of weeks back — an event that included 106 breweries — the proliferation of choices reminded me of the scene in the 1984 movie Moscow on the Hudson in which the character played by Robin Williams, a refugee from the Soviet Union, goes to a Manhattan supermarket to buy coffee and is so overwhelmed by all the options available that he hyperventilates and passes out. I planned to use that as the lead to my story, but I had to shelve that idea because it took longer than I anticipated to turn it around and in the interim, Williams had brought his life to a very sad end. The movie is a bit of a late Cold War period piece, but nonetheless, if you should ever have a chance to watch it, look for this scene that has stuck in my mind for 30 years. Ultimately, the legacy of his talent will be what we remember most about Robin Williams and not how he left us.
