As an elder in the United Methodist Church I have the privilege of being a “sent” person. We are sent into ministry locations to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Being sent is a privilege and high honor. It means that the Bishop and cabinet of this conference, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, send me (and my family) into communities to advance the reign of God. Being sent on Godly errands is the calling I answered more than fifteen years ago. Being sent means that we occasionally get to move. One can not be sent without being willing to move. And so…. With equal portions of sadness and excitement I can officially say that as of June 25th I am projected to join the ministry team at Belin UMC in Murrells Inlet, SC. This change in appointment exposes a wide range of emotions for our family since we are deeply rooted in our Union family, but committed to following after God’s will. There is not enough space in this post to express the gratitude we have for our Union family. You have been a remarkable place to serve God, our neighbor, and raise our family. You are amazing. We have seen Union transform from that little church on the edge of town into a beacon of hope for those, literally, around the world. I stand amazed at what God is doing through you, and I still believe your best days are ahead of you. As for this new chapter in our life, we are excited and eager to see what God is up to. We have our suspicions, but we know that even our wildest dreams can still put God in a box. I am looking forward to serving alongside Rev. Mike Alexander and all the awesome staff, servants, and hearts at Belin. We covet your prayers as we seek to sell our home, find a new domicile, and continue to follow The Carpenter. Whatever lot may befall us, the ministry is a privilege we take seriously. And at the end of the day, to God be the glory. In the words of the prophet, here I am Lord, send me.——Scott Allen Johnson
