As everyone here would know, I am rather critical of the Victorian Liberal Government. To put it mildly. However, this seems rather ... erm... well, judge for yourself. Section 19A of the Crimes Act 1958 (VIC) states that: A person who, without lawful excuse, intentionally causes another person to be infected with a very serious disease is guilty of an indictable offence (with serious disease defined as HIV). The Victorian Labor opposition wishes to repeal this provision: danielandrews.au/policy/labor-will-stand-up-to-discrimination-and-fight-for-equality/ To clarify: It appears the Victorian Labor party wishes to make it legal to INTENTIONALLY infect someone with HIV (and, while I can see no other provision in the legislation that could possibly cover such action, even if there were such, judicial interpretation of repealing this particular statute would, I believe, render it rather moot). I can see NO other reading from them wanting to repeal this statute than them wishing to make INTENTIONALLY infecting someone with HIV legal. This is, of course, in addition to them, in this same release, wishing to destroy freedom of religion through forcing private religious groups to conform to anti-discrimination laws. Again: I can see no other reading of this as that Victorian Labor party wishes to make it legal to INTENTIONALLY infect someone with HIV The mind boggles...
