As it have read through these posts it seems as though most of the praises of CC is a praise of the THEORY of common core, not the actual implementation of it. Believe it or not, I am not someone who hears CC and runs in the other direction. My issue is the fact that at LEAST 95% percent of the educators I have been in contact with this year (thousands) feel that CC will never work in their classrooms IN THE WAY NYS WANTS IT IMPLEMENTED. Kim Hardwick yes I have even gotten countless messages from teachers in your building and district explaining how this just does not work for them, and their despair over the inability of the administration to recognize the flaws. As a matter of fact, most of the correspondence from struggling teachers comes from these cheerleading districts such as yours, East Moriches, and East Meadow. THAT is a problem. As I said before, even if you are somehow able to prove that the THEORY of CC is perfect, if NYS will not implement it correctly, then do we not have a serious problem? If 95% of the front line teachers using it say it doesnt work, in my eyes, then it simply cannot work. I testified at both the senate and assembly hearings. I heard hundreds of administrators and teachers testify that the WAY this was rolling out will not work. When the SED was questioned and asked why not change the things that are not working - such as tests tied to APPR, standards that cannot be changed or modified with educator input, modules written by educators, not by a corporation, and an opt in bill for data. Do you know what the SED said? Simply no. They claimed that it will not work unless all of those components remain intact. That was when I lost any hope of our educators successfully implementing CC.
