As many of my friends and family may know, my dad has been very sick over the past few years. During this time, we have traveled all over trying to find a doctor that had the answers and could provide the treatment needed. It has been a tiring journey but my dad has been determined and has not given up. The physicians at Duke finally determined his condition which is AL Amyloidosis. It is a disease that is common among Vietnam Veterans that were exposed to Agent Orange. My dad was a combat engineer in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War and during his service, he was exposed to Agent Orange. I have always had the most respect for the Marines because my dad was (and always will be) a Marine. While there is no cure for his disease, the specialist at Duke are trying diligently to help my dad. I must say that the medical staff at Duke are unlike any I have ever met. The team of doctors that have treated my dad are beyond smart and know their stuff. But the one thing they offer that is invaluable is their determination to help him. Today, as in many days when I left, my dad asked me to pray for him, as I walked away, he told me that he loved me. To me that was the most powerful conversation I have ever had with my dad. My dad has never been one to say I love you, but I never needed for him to say it because I knew. What a gift it was to have him say it. My dad has done so much for me and my family and his service to this country has been very costly to his health as we have found out years later. I am asking everyone that will to please say a prayer for my dad, George W. Mote. He will be grateful as will I. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
