As many of you know, Coach Robert is back in the hospital. He was not doing well on Thursday when we went to the surgeon to discuss plans and options for surgery. I have been told or asked by a lot of people who are close to the family and school why they are hearing different stories. I personally have even been asked about Prostate Cancer. I want to be honest and up front with YOU- our loving and caring Holy Family so that everyone knows the information. We have been asking and pleading for a diagnosis or explanation for what is going on with Dad. Here is what we know so far-about five weeks ago, he started feeling pretty bad. Since then Dad has had a CT scan, PET scan, and two biopsies done. He has a 13mm tumor in his lung which is a pulmonary adenocarcinoma or Lung Cancer. This is a large cell tumor which the Drs are not worried about treating until we get his digestive system better. Now to the major issue. Dad has been severely jaundiced due to a bile duct tumor or stricture. We have heard from three doctors so far that they are fairly certain that Dad has Pancreatic Cancer. They sent an ultrasound probe into his digestive system to check for any areas of cancer that they could detect. The only thing found was the bile duct tumor which was biopsied and came back benign. WELL- Thursday the surgeon told us that we could get a dozen benign biopsies and it still be cancer. Although we do not have a definitive Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis- all of the doctors just cant explain the sudden and drastic toll it has taken on Dad any other way. Pancreatic cancer is just really, REALLY hard to diagnose and until they know For Sure Dad has faith and remains strong that its not! Dad has lost 30lbs in the last 5-6wks and the doctors say that with that type of weight loss so quickly-they are really concerned that we are dealing with advanced stages of this and that it MAY NOT be operable. We dont know any more than this right now but all of us are praying and hopeful that this projection is wrong and once Dad is stronger, they can do surgery and remove this blockage and get him feeling better. Either way- we truly appreciate and are humbled by the comments and concern that everyone has shown to all of us. I know that Dad has been a visible and passionate part of HFS for over 40 years and WE THANK ALL OF YOU for your prayers, comments, and thoughts. -Bart Landry
