As many of you know, Im on the board of the Multicultural Refugee Coalition of Austin (MRC) and we are having our big 5th anniversary fundraiser. Im 70% towards my goal of $1000 and have 2 weeks left. I can get to the finish line with your *tax-deductible* support. Any amount from you will be greatly appreciated…$10, $25, $50. https://mrcaustin.org/seeds-of-change-donation-form/?kwoAdvocateId=DAZKM70 The Multicultural Refugee Coalition (MRC) assists the refugee community in Austin to integrate into their new American life. After the refugees six months of federal assistance is exhausted, were there to support them by offering English programs, jobs hunting and financial literacy workshops, and community-building activities like gardening, sewing and kids programs. Our participants have found jobs, bought houses, and obtained their US citizenship, among other achievements. Some MRC highlights: - In 2014 we have served over 170 refugees from Burma, Bhutan, Cuba, Iraq, Congo, Burundi, Sudan, and more - In July our Pathways to Self Sufficiency program served 24 unique refugees mostly with ESL/Citizenship and Professional Recertification and a few for computer literacy and general job help - The Agriculture Program has at least 30 families participating and providing organic ingredients for 400 meals. Participants are from Bhutan, Burundi, Congo, Burma and Iraq - The Global Kids Club serves refugee kids from Sudan and Bhutan at our center and is just rolling out home-based tutoring support for refugee youth as school is getting started- hoping to increase our numbers and impact! - The Sewing Program has over a dozen sewers each week from Bhutan, Burma. Congo, Burundi, Iraq and Sudan. We will be rolling out an 8-10 week sewing training program in September as well as introducing our social enterprise, Intertwined, for these refugees to receive training and supplemental income from the sale of their products. - MRC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that relies on events like this to continue our work. Your donation is tax deductible. You can learn more about the needed work were doing at our web site: mrcaustin.org Im happy to answer any questions you have.
