As most of you know I have suffered with a back injury for years. A fall from a horse while riding over a jump in my teen years ruptured my L5 . My L4 has become herniated over the years also. Most of the time I am stiff and sore but can still manager every day tasks. I would have the occasional bad flare up but would get over it and go along with life, albeit with limited mobility and annoying but manageable pain. Fortunately while I was pregnant my back wasnt horrible.. it hurt but I was able to cope. I am not in that situation now. My back is in agonizing pain every day to the point that I cannot bend down to tie my shoes, lift my son out of his playpen or even sit down on the floor to play with him. It has been steadily getting bad for the past couple of months but as of last week it has become so debilitating that I couldnt even help my dear friend Kathie decorate for her wedding and when it came time that afternoon to walk down the aisle as a bridesmaid I had to take strong medicine to be able to stand up straight and be mobile for a couple of hours. I am posting this because I know some of my friends have experienced serious back injuries and I need advice and opinions. I had seen a commercial for the Laser Spine Institute and called them. After many calls back and forth, I do qualify for the procedure but they only have a handful of facilities in the U.S. where they do this minimally invasive laser procedure but unfortunately for me none of them are in Alabama and therefore will be out of network for my insurance and lots of money out of pocket. I am trying to find a solution to this. My back pain has impacted my life to the point I cant even function doing daily activities without excruciating pain. I literally can hardly bend to sit down on the couch. My quality of life has dramatically gone downhill and I have to do something before it declines any further. I am 40 but my body feels much older. I have seen the signs locally for Coastal Neurological Institute (the ones that say it took a brain surgeon to fix my back referring to the fact that neurologists are more expertly skilled in back surgeries than orthopaedists.) I looked them up and the physicians in that group are: ◦Troy H. Middleton III, MD ◦W. Brent Faircloth, MD ◦Donald R. Tyler II, MD ◦Edward R. Flotte, MD Any reviews, experiences or opinions on these docs from any of my friends? I desperately need some feedback here. I have to get some help for my back. Pain pills and muscle relaxers only temporarily relieve pain and anything strong enough to ease the pain makes me severely nauseated and lightheaded so thats not a practical solution so I know I am looking at probably a laminectomy in the near future. I am anxious to hear any advice any of you may have on the subject. In the meantime, I would be grateful for any prayers you could send on my behalf. I am having a particularly difficult day physically with my back and cant leave work. Trying to hang on til 6pm and go home and try to find some comfortable way to position on the couch of in bed to get some pressure off these discs. Thanks in advance everyone.
