As most of you know I was recently in a fairly serious motorcycle accident. Lucky for me I only broke my femur and it looks like, in due time, I will make a full recovery. It does not escape me how this type of crash could have had a very different outcome. There is one thing that is very real to me even more so now then prior to the accident. Motorcycles, mopeds, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards or any other mode of transport where you are vulnerable to injury are not dangerous. Its the lack of attention from not only the motorists around us but us, ourselves that make the road less safe. I love the feeling of freedom that comes with a good ride and I will not let fear limit my experience and enjoyment of life. I do and will however leave this situation with a more profound awareness of my environment. Please pay attention. Wear a helmet. Follow the rules of the road. If you are in a car, please keep a watchful eye for the vulnerable people that share the street with you. If you are on a bike give yourself some space from the vehicles around you. Be as safe as you can be, be cautious without being afraid and live life to the fullest, whatever that is to you.
