As my friend Stefani Stand-Itgetsbetter Miller so eloquently put it: Here is what I hope to never forget...how the city came together in peace, love, and care for one another. How the MTA didnt charge that day for the bases so people could get home. How Mayor Gulliani cared for the city and the families of those who perished. How shoe stores were handing out shoes to survivors walking home barefoot. How my students ran out to the Red Cross to donate blood. How the nation sent rescuers to help clean up. How celebrities went down to ground zero to help serve food or cheer up the workers. How donations poured into the Javits center for the families and the rescue workers...massage therapists and healers volunteered their time. How rescuers walked from ground zero to the Javits Center after a long day of grueling clean-up. How amazing it felt being able to offer them a ride...feeling that in some small way we had helped. The city really came together to heal...it was as beautiful as it was horrific. Remember the beauty...honor the victims...and be grateful.
