As of today almost 2,000 people have signed our petition. In the last 24 hours over 400 more people have signed opposing this quarry. Our shopping centre and markets volunteers are giving their precious weekend time to share the information about this quarry. This week our posts here on facebook has reached 21,976 - and 80 new members. Hopefully ALL GOLD COAST LNP members, Premier Campbell Newman and the minister for quarries DP Seeney, our town planners are taking note of these numbers. They all claim this quarry is so valuable to the state that we dont matter. Gravel and the billions Boral will make from it, not Queensland, not the Gold Coast, purely Boral, must be protected. Its not a hospital. Its not a bridge. Its not a motorway, its not a Dam, its not an energy plant that everyone derives a benefit from - ITS A QUARRY, its gravel and most of it is headed for northern NSW because they cant meet their demand! We can, they cant, no-matter how they spin it thats the facts! We are one strong, determined community that refuse to roll-over. Approve this quarry and someone best start calculating the financial costs to the Gold Coast ... the roadwork to accommodate this quarry, the 40+ years of maintenance of the road work, the traffic grid-locks with 260 to 300 quarry truck movements A DAY in a residential roadwork system, the safety of our roads around the quarry is already noted as a high accident/incident roadway with far too many fatalities. 260 to 300 truck movements a day will make it far worse. Parents with children in local schools, commuters using Varsity Railway Station will ALL be forced to avoid Old Coach Road and find a safer way. How much will that cost the community in time, fuel and running costs? Did the Coordinator General calculate that cost to the community? What about the NOISE, we all worry about the noise of the quarry, the gravel crushing and industrial diesel equipment and crushers but what about the noise of 260 to 300 truck movements a day, out and back into the quarry from 6:30am to 6pm 6 days a week? What price does the State Government put on what we all paid to live in an environment where what we hear most are birds and rustling leaves in trees? Those trucks, this quarry, will put an end to that. Someone has to pay for robbing us of our tranquility, our harmony with nature. Approve this quarry and it wont be Boral, they are protected from any form of reprisal, LNP DP Seeney has seen to that. Keep sharing and educating others who still dont know about this quarry and its impacts. Dont take it for granted everyone knows. They dont.
