As part of the Garrick Utley Memorial Lecture Series on Global Media Issues, Dr. Josef Joffe, Editor of DIE ZEIT, discussed “One Hundred Years of Consequences: The Strategic, Political, and Cultural Legacy of World War I” before more than 60 American Council on Germany members and friends on December 2. Garrick Utley was a seasoned journalist and a global citizen who was committed to building bridges across cultures. He served as Chairman of the ACG from July 1998 to March 2011, after which he continued to serve on the Board. He passed away on February 20 of this year. Garrick Utley’s endless pursuit of learning and building networks across borders lives on in this series, and especially in the lives of those who knew him. The ACG was deeply honored to have his soul mate and wife of four decades, art historian Gertje Utley, in attendance. The lecture series was established through the generous support of ACG Vice Chairman Dr. Richard M. Hunt.
