As promised - heres my (Sams) 2013 Top 10. Every other critic in the world has American Hustle, Her, 12 Years a Slave etc. covered, so if you have a problem with them not making this list... um, deal with it. 10. The Worlds End / This Is The End (tie) - two very different (and very funny) comedies that shared some thematic juice. Fun, flawed characters and clever writing abound in both. 09. V/H/S 2 - What can I say? Im a sucker for horror anthologies, and this series is getting it right so far. 08. Kick-Ass 2 - Jim Carreys publicity squeamishness notwithstanding, his Colonel Stars and Stripes is just one of a bucketload of great character introductions in this bigger, better follow-up to Matthew Vaughns original. 07. Pacific Rim - Guillermo del Toro writes a visual love letter to Japanese monster and giant robot films. Audiences stayed away in droves. Too bad for them. Gorgeous, with just the right level of fanboy cheese. 06. Rush - Finally, the movie wed all been waiting for, with Geddy Lee and Neil Peart racing Red Barchettas. Just kidding. Ron Howards mid-70s double biopic of James Hunt and Niki Lauda offered some great moments of Formula 1 on-track verve, but really hit top gear in its characters relationships between the races. 5 through 1 to follow next!
