As so many, many others Ill never forget that day, the hour that I found out. I lived in Cleveland and worked for Union Carbide Chemicals, my boss left for lunch around 12:45 p.m. ....and the next thing I knew he was coming through the door with this awful look on his ashen face ......Whats wrong? I said ....Where can we get a radio? he asked .....I dont remember how we found one , but we did ...and then we heard Walter Cronkite say those awful words .......at 1:00 today, John F. Kennedy was shot & killed in Dallas Texas.....I was standing next to a bunch of files drawers ....the radio was on top ....and I grabbed onto a door handle to keep from falling to the floor and then the tears, the weeping ....it was unbelievable. Later as I rode home on the bus .....everyone on the bus was silent ...not a word was spoken ......and then the following days ...glued to the TV...and then Sunday morning ...I was watching the news live from Dallas ...they were taking Harvey Lee Oswald thru a hallway ...and a man steps out of the crowd and shots him dead ....on live tv .........beyond imagination & belief ....I screamed for my mother, sister & brother to come into the living room ..........then the funeral ....the horse w/no rider ...Little John saluting his fathers casket as it rolled by .........the look of Mrs. Kennedys face ... everyone had stayed up all nite to watch the parade of people pay their respects to the fallen hero in the Capital rotunda ...average people, well known people ...they just kept coming and coming ........then the silent parade down Pennsylvania Avenue with thousands lining the curbs .....it seemed to go on forever ......no one went to work ....everyone stayed at home glued to the tv ............The dream.....Camelot.......was over ....gone ...never to return again. I had worked for the Kennedy campaign in Cleveland and one of my jobs was to write letters to supporters ....and sign them .....in my own handwriting ....John F. Kennedy ......so if you have one of those letters I am sorry to tell you ...its not worth anything ....he didnt sign them.....little old me did.
