As some of you know Ive been working on moving the 4 sets I recorded of Phil in Atlanta in July 1973 from a reel to reel tape to cd so I can share them with all who would like them for their own personal enjoyment and to not profit from them in any way. I was successful with the first 2 sets but have now run into a technical-mechanical-electronic problem. My reel to reel deck is old, maybe 40 years, but basically in good condition. It has started giving a problem that can drive you crazy if youre trying to burn a cd, because if you have to stop in the middle, the cd is ruined and you have to completely start over. That is what just happened while working on the set from July 19, probably the best one I have in sound quality. The problem is the takeup reel suddenly stops working as youre playing the tape. It is apparently the takeup motor capacitor that needs replacing. I ordered a new one from Bob at Vintage Electronics in Colorado that cost me $11. The one he sent is a 1.5mfd at 250 volts but the one in my deck is a 1mfd at 250 volts. He said thats all he had and close wasnt good enough, had to be exact. He really wasnt much help in steering me to someone who might have the right one. So Im asking for any help from you all out there in Ochs fan land that might know where I could find this. Very frustrating, Phil doing a beautiful rendition of Joe Hill and then right in the middle, the reel stops turning, cd ruined. Thanks.
