As someone who teaches media studies in college, I find this video fascinating. On one hand, 50 Cents early music is the epitome of stereotypical, violent, misogynist gangasta-rap. However, what he shows in this clip is that the real person behind the media construct is quite different - a thoughtful human being who is concerned about giving back and leaving a positive legacy. I think this speaks volumes to the kind of persona that hip-hop artists are encouraged to project because it makes the culture industry (and sometimes themselves) millions. Ill be really interested to see if this other side of 50 will start to come out in his music, and if so, how it will be perceived in the media marketplace. In any event, respect for the charitable work hes doing...
