As soon as I swallowed my pills yesterday, I realized that I shouldnt have taken my morning doses at 4 p.m. If I take my thyroid pill too late in the day, it jacks me up to where I dont sleep well. I told the Dave what I had done. Well, you are on vacation. If you cant sleep, just sleep late in the morning. I found that to be an acceptable idea and didnt worry about being up later than normal last night. And I was right. When my head hit the pillow, my eyes were wide open. No problem, I thought. Ill just sleep until I wake up in the morning. Finally, sometime in the wee hours of the morning, I fell asleep and slept hard. HERES YOUR COFFEE, he screamed at the top of his lungs in his drill sergeant voice as he slammed it down on the bistro table in our bedroom at 7 a.m. I jumped about two feet off of the bed straight up in the air. A stream of obscenities emitted from my sleepy mouth. Well, if you dont want to get up, just go back to sleep, he said as he sat beside me on the bed, knowing that I NEVER go back to sleep once I have been awakened, especially when its so LOUD. He put his arm around me and gave me a pat. (Dont pat me and dont talk to me at this time of morning, ever. And he knows this.) Even the dogs were loud as they stomped across the floor and their metal tags clanging like cymbals. No, no. Id rather go ahead and get up and have coffee with you, I lied, looking up at him with swollen eyes and my hair looking like, as Kim so sweetly told me one morning, a banty rooster. And, now, he and Kim have taken off to the wilds of Red River County to pick a jury. I stood at the door in my stained T-shirt, my flannel pajamas and my rooster hair waving bye to them. Of course, Kim looks like a little doll in her cute clothes and her boots and all, right out of a fashion magazine, and Dave looked pretty handsome in his suit. Didnt do a lot for my self-esteem at the crack of dawn. I really need to do something with this hair.
