As the 40 days pictures were so popular, we have decided to continue posting your favourite teachers each week with instructions and hot tips for your asana practice! Kicking things off is Chris in Virabhadrasana II aka, Warrior II This asana is dedicated to the powerful hero, Virabhadra, who was created by Shiva from a lock of his matted hair. Step your feet 4 to 4 inches apart. Raise the arms parallel to the floor and actively reach through the finger tips. Palms should be facing down, shoulder blades drawing down the spine and the chest opening. Turn your right toes to the top of the mat and keep the left foot at 90 degrees, aligning the heels and firming your thighs. Exhale and bend the right knee until the shin is perpendicular to the floor. If possible, the right thigh should be parallel to your mat. Roll the right knee laterally, towards the little toe, until the knee is aligned with the centre of the ankle. Press firmly into the back edge of your left foot. Resist the tendency to lean the torso toward the front leg by squaring the shoulders over the hips. Tilt the tailbone under and direct your gaze (drishti) to the front middle finger. Through this pose, the legs and ankles strengthen and the abdominal organs are stimulated. Simultaneously, the groin, chest and shoulders are opened. The warrior poses can also be therapeutic for flat feet, back ache, sciatica and infertility. Chris teaches Mixed Levels Vinyasa at Asas Towers on Friday afternoons at 5pm. He will also be leading an intro to yoga course at Asas on Sunday/ Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm from 14th September
