The People, subsidizing Wal-Mart through the 6 Billion + in public assistance paid to its employees. In other words, Wal-Mart personifies the consequences of CONservative polices, and everything thats wrong with this country. Lowering the top marginal tax rate, hobbling unions, overturning campaign finance laws, NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT... and ending welfare as we know it.” The post-New Deal shared prosperity was not an accident, and neither is the fact that the number one employer in the U.S. today is Wal-Mart, whose workers have to hold canned food drives for each other so they dont starve. 30 years ago, the number one employer was General Motors, whose union negotiated a living wage, with benefits and retirement security, guaranteeing there would be no need to beg for canned food to survive. As we see again, united we bargain, divided we beg. Both Democratic and Republican administrations are responsible for forcing America to drink the Reaganomics voodoo that transformed of the once-economically vibrant working class into the more malleable working poor. Time to undo so-called free trade; slap a hefty estate tax on bloated fortunes, as well as empower unions and reinstate the 90% top marginal tax rate - like under that Socialist, Eisenhower - for a start.
