As the elections are progressing, the politicians are losing their cool more frequently. Because of this, the focus is getting shifted from one blunder or sensation before people could really thoroughly enjoy it. For example, before there is adequate coverage on sensitive issue like Modi’s wife, comes Mulayam’s threat to contract teachers. Before this news gathers steam, we get to see Ajit Pawar threatening villagers of cutting off the water supply. Before we react, there is toffee and balloon. As we enjoy this, there is veiled threat from Uma Bharati about placing the national son-in-law in jail. Amidst this chaos comes the Kashmir separatist group’s allegation about meeting Modi’s emissaries. Then there is Giriraj Singhs’s irresponsible Pakistan comment. And so on… Seeing all this, the election commission might come up with some ‘model code of conduct’ like this: A candidate or a leader has to book in advance about the time slot to make an allegation / create a sensation so that adequate coverage can be given. The telecast rights would be sold to channels in an auction. The allegation need not be correct. Mostly it will not be correct. Every leader shall be provided with legal assistance to defend him professionally. There would be entertainment tax levied on the innocent people who watch the news … mostly for fun, but with a fond hope that one day our country would really progress…!
