As the elections time time are approaching, I am reminded of this novel this by George Orwell The Animal Farm. The Animals on Manor farm evict their human master, who they see as an oppressor, in the hope of creating a more equitable and egalitarian farm;a farm of animals, by animals and for animals. They put in place rules that will govern the farm after the human master is evicted. For example, in their idealised farm, All animals are equal. All animals organise their efforts led by two pigs and the rebellion is successful. Whats striking is how their idealised farm never comes to pass and how animals masters (the pigs) emerge ruling with a more iron hand than the evicted human master. For example, animals are required to work harder and longer than before but are treated as less equal. In fact, the rule All animals are equal is modified to All animals are equal BUT some animals are more equal than others. Worse still, the animals leaders begin to trade with human masters from neighbouring farms, contrary to the precepts if independence from any humans. The situation on the farm becomes worse that it was. Personally I feel elections are not enough to change our society for the better. and my experience has taught me that all the rhetoric (if any) the flies around this time can never be trusted.
