As the old adage states, One needs to take the good news along - TopicsExpress

As the old adage states, One needs to take the good news along with the bad. We have had a few really good days and Prince Bandit ate 15 full meals beautifully without much incident. Last night though, was a ruff night. No food regurgitated but small amounts of fluid, multiple times, enough to raise my red flag of possible aspiration pneumonia. After several hours of these sporadic regurgitations, I gave him an anti nausea pill, and thankfully within half an hour he fell sound asleep. To be safe, I propped him up with pillows so fluid could remain where it was supposed to. So another trip to the Vet and a consultation reviewing xrays taken at Duarte Azusa by Dr. Z. Dr. Dennis carefully viewed them and reviewed his Blood tests and agreed infection was evident and to keep on Clavamox. Dr. Dennis then removed bandages from Bandits rear paw surgery and his lacerations are healing well. Now for the not so good news. Second opinion indicates Bandit has a severe case of Mega E. Surgery is not a guarantee to correct his embryonic anamoly in the way his esophagus and aortic arch were formed. The sheer enlargement of Bandits esopahus is huge and will affect his trachea, heart and invades his lung space. Limiting breathing capacity considerably. Any future adopter needs to be aware of this as does any future long term foster. Prognosis depends entirely on his ability to gain weight and keep it on but he will be restricted in his future and careful monitoring will be necessary. Aspiration Pneumonia is the leading cause of death in Mega E dogs. Those that know me, know that I believe in the Ultimate Vet and thus far, Bandit has made it 7 mos. His life matters to many here and to me as well. Only time will tell the quality of life he can lead. I will continue forward and hope with more proper feedings, Bandit will come through well. If at any point his suffering becomes more prevalent than his joy, we can make those decisions if need be. He is a fighter and I see a bright future ahead.
