A broad area of low pressure will remain over the state over the next few days, and a surface trough should remain over the southern interior. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Fine and clear about the east coast except for some showers about the Peninsula district. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far north and the northwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds across the state. Monday 20 January The new surface trough will extend from the Channel Country into the southeastern interior, generating some showers and thunderstorms near and to its north and east, mostly over inland parts. Fine and mostly sunny about the east tropical coast. Showers and thunderstorms through the remaining tropics, more widespread about Cape York Peninsula and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Hot over southern and central Queensland. Fine and sunny over the southwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds across the state. Fire Danger - High to very high over the interior. Tuesday 21 January The surface trough will produce showers and storms in a band from the western districts across the central interior and down to the southeast.
