As today starts off breast cancer awareness month I can only take a deep sigh of relief. My mom Kathy Tucker was diagnosed with breast cancer about 4 weeks ago. When my mom called and told me the news, I was at a lose of words. The thoughts of watching my mom fight breast cancer was something I wasnt sure I could handle. My mom has always been the rock of the family now she was going to need us to be her rock. As we waited on her appointment to talk with the doctors about the next step the days got long. There was many nights with no sleep and many days of tears. I told myself everyday that I had to be strong and that everything was going to be ok. The day of the appointment finally came and we were told that the cancer had been caught early enough that it was still at stage zero and that it was non in-invasive meaning that it would not spread to other parts of the breast. that was a big sigh of relief. They said that they could just go in and take the tumor out and save her breast which was great for my mom. she has to under go 21 treatments of radiation and take meds for 5 years to prevent it from coming back. I watched my mother be overcome with fear due to the fact that there was a monster inside of her. Then I watched a woman who can say I AM A SURVIVOR. That was a great feeling. The past few weeks have been hard for a lot of people that love and care for my mom dearly. i want to Thank all of yall for the love, care, and support for us during this time. i would like to tell my mom that I am very proud of her for staying strong during this battle and for having her yearly mammogram done. If it wasnt for the mammograms that she had done the outcome could have been totally different. So every one please make sure to have test done that are for prevention because just when you think that it will not happen to you-- it will.
