As we approach Christmas and the end of the year each day well revisit many of the images used from our Archive 2014 as compilations. All photograph images are credited in the archive gallery. So sit back and scroll through memories from yesteryear from The Erdington & Aston Past & Present Archive:--- END OF YEAR COMPILATION PART 5 ERDINGTON ROADS O to S 1. ORCHARD ROAD 1935. Viewed from Arthur Road/Holiday Road junction, with horse drawn milk cart. 2. ORPHANAGE ROAD, ERDINGTON 1936. Orphanage Road looking toward Chester Road. The outline of the Orphanage back left. Opposite the large houses on the left of the picture will become the entry into Goodison Gardens just further along on the right. The large houses seen are still standing today next to the back entrance to St. Edmund Campion School. 3. PAGET ROAD 1929. 4. PENNS LANE, ERDINGTON 1913. A view of Penns Lane just passed the junction with Orphanage Road on the right. Later the Sutton Coldfield boundary moved further toward Chester Road and Penns Lane became part of the Royal Borough. 5. RESERVOIR ROAD 1928. Once known as Cut Throat Lane, here is a 1920s view of Reservoir Road looking up from Stockland Green. The corner of Slade Road immediate right. 6. RESERVOIR ROAD 1962. The number 11 Outer Circle at the Bundy Clock Stop before continuing its journey over Slade Road junction down Marsh Hill toward Witton. 7. SHORT HEATH ROAD 1959. Looking along Short Heath Road towards the Red Lion Public House in the background. 8. SILVERBIRCH ROAD 1930. The Josiah Mason Orphanage makes an imposing statement in the background looking down past the large houses of Silverbirch Road from Sutton Road. 9. SLADE ROAD 1918. A quiet view of Slade Road after the Armistice on 11th November 1918. Open balcony tram on the 78 route in the background with the entrance to George Road on the right. 10. SLADE ROAD 1952. Tramcar 719 working the 78 route back into town from Short Heath terminus passing the prefab houses on Slade Road near Stockland Green. 11. SLADE ROAD 1982. View looking south along Slade Road.
