As we approach Veterans Day, I must say something about the abomination that is occurring in Downtown Johnstown. If youve driven past the War Memorial Arena, you know what Im talking about. A few years back, they built this monument with an eternal flame dedicated to the troops outside the arena. Within the last few months, the gas has been shut off and a horrible looking plastic flame (supposedly LED flame) has taken the place of the actual flames on top of the monument. To say the least, this looks tacky when youre driving past, but moreover, its an insult to the men and women who gave their lives and limbs for the safety and security of our country.
