As we celebrate MLK Day today, those that know History know the turmoil we had in this Country during that time, with a high casualty war raging, in Vietnam. We saw a President Assassinated, as well as his brother, a Senator from New York. The main Speaker for the Blacks that were fighting so hard for Equal Rights, for his people, was also gunned down. All 3 of them standing what they believed in, were killed in their own Country all by a firearm. this was in 1963..and 1968. Yet the Republican Party wages on with their War on the gun control issue. Give this some serious thought, have we come much farther, as a Nation?? I think not. Has Government? I think not. We have become worse, needless to say. The turmoil of the 60s almost looks good in comparison of what we have become. We have 2 political parties that put the American People through grief on a daily basis. I am not one to EVER throw that race card out there, but I think its due in this, after observing what all has transpired during the past 5 yrs. If this President were white he would be a hero, no doubt. In a poll taken in Oct. (11 months after they had been re-elected) 60% favored voting out every Congressional incumbent. 93% Of the Republican House members, that Romney carried, 96% Of the Dem. dists. that Obama carried. Not good numbers, needless to say. Much of the House vote is concentrated in large cities. Obama won by 80% or more in 27 Districts, Romney did so in only 1. That is why the Democratic House got almost 1.5 million more votes than Rep. Candidates, but lost control of the House. Today we have 30 Republican Governors, only 4 short of the all time high, back in the 20s. After the election Republicans still control governorships, and legislatures in 25 states with 53% of the nations population. Democrats have control of 13 States, with 30% of the population. Since the emergence of the Republican Party, only 2 Democratic Presidents, Roosevelt n Kennedy have been followed by Democrats, and both died in Office, so their Successors ran as incumbents. But the Republican Party HAS NOT decisively won an election since 1988. Since then, NO Republican nominee has ever won more than 50.8% of the vote. In the past 6 elections, (1992-2012) the Republicans averaged 211 Electoral Votes, Democrats 327. Republicans LOST the popular vote in 5 of these elections, and in the 6th (2004) W Bushs margin was the Smallest ever for a re-election. In 2012 Obama became the FIRST PRESIDENT since Reagan to win 2 popular-vote majorities. Also in 2012 Obama became the first President to win an election, while losing the male vote by 7%. Even in the 3 most intensely states in 2012, Florida Virginia, and Ohio, he would have still Won with 272 electoral votes. Of the 12 battleground states, Obama won 11, 8 of those by by a margin of more than 5% points. These are the facts. As we struggle with our First Black President, yes, 50 yrs Later... And as we Honor Dr. King today??? We are NOT giving up..your Party still has that Dream to make this Country a Better Place. But we are sure Struggling to get there. We Never FORGOT that all of YOU gave your Lives, trying to make a Difference....R.I.P. Abraham, Martin, John, and Bobby.
