As we condemn the barbaric acts of the Islamic terrorist group ISIS, and the second beheading of another innocent American journalist, Steven Sotloff, we also received sad news from the Assyrian town of Bartella, in the Nineveh plain, that a 43 year old Assyrian man, Salem Matti Gewargis, was murdered by the terrorist group ISIS for refusing to convert to the Islam. He was badly beaten and physically tortured. One of the relatives of the murdered man said that he was suffering from heart disease and was unable to get out of Bartella, when his family fled the town as ISIS terrorists took control of the town. He added that Salem remained in the house for three weeks, but had to venture out of the house yesterday, in search of food & water, that’s when he encountered the ISIS Islamic terrorists in front of the Church of the Virgin Mary in the city center. They immediately arrested him and try to force him to convert to Islam, but when he refused, they beat him and tortured him to death and left his body dumped in the street. His body was later found by some Arab new comers to the town, where they buried him. Funeral prayers & memorial service will take place at the Syriac Orthodox Church, in Ankawa, Iraq.
