As we head in to some (hopefully!) warmer weather it might pay to think a bit more about your hydration during exercise especially if you are planning a longer session. Generally water is best with the addition of a sports drink (with no more than 8% carbohydrate) for exercise sessions over 90 minutes. Here are some general guidelines... Before exercise: drink 2-2.5 cups (425-570mL) 2-3 hours before exercise and then 1 cup (225-280mL) 15 minutes before you start. During exercise: 1 cup every 15 minutes during exercise. If exercising more than 90 minutes drink 1 cup of a sports drink every 15-30 minutes. Optimal hydration will help ensure optimal performance!
