As we mount up today for our roadtrip through the Bible, we find passages that show dramatically the clear disasters that can be caused by trying to make life happen by our own agenda, by our own craftiness, by our own pride. 1. Proverbs 26 describes the dangers of the whisperer, whose gracious flattering words and secrets shared go directly into the hearts of the hearers, kindling strife, anger, deceit...poisoning the body of believers. The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, And they go down into the [k]innermost parts of the body. 23 Like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross Are burning lips and a wicked heart. 24 He who hates disguises it with his lips, But he lays up deceit in his [l]heart. 25 When [m]he speaks graciously, do not believe him, For there are seven abominations in his heart. 2. In Philippians Paul explains the wonder and ease of Gods grace, that makes us righteous simply through our repentance and faith in Jesus. At the same time, he warns us about the dogs, the evil workers who focus on the flesh, on human standards and knowledge, social connections and status, and religious titles for position. Philippians 3 3. 2 Chronicles 10-11 shows us an example of utter foolishness of ruling, or leading a body with an iron fist. A young King is asked to make the work burdens lighter on the Israelites. His young male advisors however, encourage him to show his ....manly strength..... by being even more harsh. He did just that, announcing heavier work requirements, and emphasizing his ability to enforce them with strength, claiming ...My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins! 10:10 Needless to say, the Israelites stoned his labor secretary to death..and King Rehoboam made haste to mount his chariot to flee. lol!
