As we recover from a huge open garden in #SophiesPatch it is great - TopicsExpress

As we recover from a huge open garden in #SophiesPatch it is great to get such wonderful feedback. We have been absolutely blown away by the response. Thank you! :) To all those who did visit, thank you for your patience as the queues were more than we could have ever imagined, and the fact that parking extended for 1km along the roadside in either direction was also something we did not predict. At one stage someone told me that the sign we had positioned at the start of the main street of Mt Barker showing people the way to our garden had been blown around and was pointing in the wrong direction. My immediate response was Great - it might slow them (the crowd/you) down!? Apologies if you were one of those that went in the wrong direction but the numbers of people swarming through my garden looked ..............scary. I am told that the local police were even directing traffic at the roundabout 2km down the road. The amazing thing was that despite the heat, the wind, the crowds, the walking etc, everyone seemed to be smiling and having a good time. Many people were there most of the day and same even came both days!? As the garden owner and plant lover, one of the amazing things about the weekend was there was minimal plant damage, even with all the plants I have that spill or self seed onto the path., In our garden plants have right of way! Our native Nara lawn does looks like it has been well worn however it will recover. Luscious has never had so many kids run along her back, which is what we all do, and she loved it too. So thank you to the visitors........................ And thank you to all those who helped out - you are absolute treasures. Here are my last few snaps and then I will let it rest. Some of my memories of the weekend, apart from a sea of smiling faces, include people rushing out 3 or 4 times for more supplies of water, ice, milk and ice-cream (the iced coffees were a hit in the heat). Due to the crowds we couldnt get the cars up to the house so I saw them wheel in my wheelbarrow loaded with milk bottles on ice. There also seemed to be a crowd of bird lovers taking photos of the pardalotes by the front door. The babies must be growing because mum and dad seem to be forever ferrying in food for them and they dont stop chirping for more. Mum and dad werent deterred by the crowd - they just kept darting above their heads to get in the door. Also many visitors buzzing with interest and enthusiasm for creating native bee hotels and urban beekeeping. Huge thanks to the Beekeepers Society of South Australia for being part of the fun!
