As you can imagine, weve been exhausted. This is NOT to say that everything has been wrong - its just to say we needed to take some time and just be. Be together. Rest. Enjoy life. Now, on to an update... As you know - yesterday, Janet had some testing and appointments. She was scheduled to have a neuro-onc clinic visit, but since she was inpatient still at the time, that appointment didnt happen. (Shed already been followed by the doctors there while inpatient.) Then, Janet had an audiology appointment to check her hearing. She will have an audiology check regularly (in between rounds, then scheduled after) to see how the chemo meds have (or prayerfully havent) affected her hearing - especially the cisplatin. That said, two things were noted. First, there was negative pressure on both sides. This was explained that could be due to the cold/virus she was busy fighting off. As such, there was also a drop in her hearing...but, it was still noted to be essentially normal. That might, or might not be due to having had a cold/virus. There will be another check in about a month. Following the audiology appointment, Janet was off to her sedated brain/spinal MRI. The wait during that thing wasnt all that fun. I went back up to the room, got things tidy, took a few things to the car, then went back downstairs to the waiting area. The MRI was completed and Janet woke up pretty quickly. They paged me right away, and I wasnt able to even get back there before she woke up! Thats the thankful part - she did well with anesthesia. Overall, the scan took about two hours. Longer than I decided was normal. (It really was normal, I was just not patient.) That said, Janets scan was great. It did not show anything new or unexpected! Thanking God! We went back up to the room, where they were preparing DISCHARGE PAPERS to allow us to take Janet home for a few days. As we were waiting, and packing up the final things in our room, Janets neurosurgeon stopped by to briefly talk about her scans. We were supposed to have had an appointment with him after the scan, but since it took longer than expected, that didnt happen. As I said before, he delivered the news that things were good. So, last night, we came home. Yes, it was clear in my message last night that I was tired. Like I said before, we just needed to rest, get everything settled at home, and just breathe. Thats my long winded update...multi-faceted to say things are pretty good right now. Janet is feeling much better, and in a great deal less pain. Her g-tube surgery spot seems to be healing pretty nicely. Whats next, you ask? Janets next round of chemo is set to be next week. She will have pre-chemo blood work on Monday to prepare for the upcoming round of inpatient chemo. Id like to share a special thanks to a few people. First of all, Id like to say thank you to each and every one of you who connect here and love, support and encourage Janet and our family. Your kindness and love make a continuous difference. We are absolutely grateful for each of you. Id also like to share sincerely heartfelt gratitude with the staff and entire medical team who take care of Janet. She has been truly blessed with all who have cared for her. The staff on the floor we were admitted on was phenomenal. We grew to love each and every one of them. From housekeeping, to the techs, to the nurses, to all the doctors in charge of her care as well as those doing rounds -- God blessed us with caring and loving people. Oh, and also Chef Rob. We couldnt ever forget Chef Rob. That man and his heart were so touching. This is not a journey anyone wants to be on, nor is the hospital a place anyone wants to spend a week or two -- or longer. That said, we couldnt ask for a better group of people or place to be at. Gratitude all the way around.
