As you enter the competitive level of athletics (14+)… Whether you think it is right or wrong, the more competitive the situation the more direct, and honest the communication gets. Weaker and softer players often shy away, hang their head or feel sorry for themselves. Stronger, more confident players learn to handle it and move quickly forward. If you struggle with this, train yourself to hear what is being said without being worried about how it is said. Coaches, it is OK to be demanding and direct but not demeaning – know the difference.
