As you know we invest in alleviating poverty through the education of girls. We also strongly believe in providing opportunity to young girls from the communities we support to be part of the solution. Nirmala is one such young lady from a marginalised community in Kathmandu. Nirmala wanted us to share her thoughts on her recent teacher training: I am so happy because I got this opportunity. This teachers training helps me to teach the children in a proper way. I learned to teach by the thematic approach which is very effective and suitable for the children to learn through the games and songs and other different activities. Many children have learning difficulties like autism, dyslexia, attention deficit , hyper active difficulties and I’ve learned how to help them to learn. If my students have problems I now know how to give them unconditional love and care. I learned to do different activities like circle time, physical exercise (PE) table games and others which are not very common in Nepal.In this method kids learn fast by doing activities. As a teacher I have to be role who is special for kids. I learned to be reliable, an encourager, realistic, understanding and loving which are very important. I’ve learned to evaluate the kids, not as an exam given in a certain time, but as a continuous assessment. It helped to develop myself confident in front of the kids and in front of parents. I’ve learned how to deal with them. I know now how to make materials myself which we need to teach. This training plays an important part in my life as a teacher. Well done Nirmala!
