As you may have just seen on the news, an ongoing shortage of type O-negative blood threatens to have serious implications for patients throughout the region. O-negative is the “universal donor” blood type, meaning that it can be given to any patient. The Kraft Family Blood Donor Center is asking that all eligible O-negative donors make an appointment to give ASAP. All blood collected will directly benefit Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women’s patients who are counting on transfusions in the days ahead. To schedule your appointment, please email [email protected] with two preferred donation days and times. If you are in the Longwood Medical Area, you can also give on the DFCI/BWH Blood Mobile this week: Wed. 1/22 from 10:30-1 at 221 Longwood Ave., and Thurs. 1/23 from 9-3 at Frontier Science/ECOG, 900 Comm. Ave. If you have never given before, and/or don’t know your blood type, the Kraft Center staff is happy to help you: just give us a call at 617-632-3206. And even if you’re not type O-negative, your donation of whole blood or platelets is still needed. Please contact the Kraft Center today to schedule an appointment that will make a lasting difference for our patients. Thank you for your generosity.
