Ash Wednesday As Catholics, we view this day as a time of repentance. However, todays celebration goes beyond being Christian or Catholic, or religion in general. Remember that God uses religion to help us, he is not bound to religion, but rather religion is bound to God. There is something truly humbling about receiving ashes on Ash Wednesday. Take a second to remember that once you are dead your body, your possessions, your achievements, and your failures will no longer be under your control. You shall be dust - the stuff that when you sweep and are being lazy gets swept under a rug and forgotten about. However, before you are dust, you are a person. As a person the words you use, the choices you make, and the people who are changed because of your life are eternal. So I challenge you to do the following two things: 1. Strive to be the person you are called to be.Take a moment and think about the areas in your life that you could improve in and actually work on them. Could be as simple as smiling more or maybe it means making a long term commitment. Pray and God will answer. 2. Think about the people in your life you care about and love. Show them what they mean to you everyday. This is as simple as telling them I love you, giving them a hug, or listening to them when they are sharing a story about their day with you. But also think about the people in your life who are a drain on you. The people who make you feel unloved and uncomfortable and have hurt you. Confront them. Forgive them. Pray for them. In the end if you do anything - choose love.
