Ashley Cole has told Chelsea that he wants to sign a new contract&extend his career at Stamford Bridge. The 32yrs-old England intnl has won 8 major honours since joining from rivals Arsenal in 2006 for £5M,plus William Gallas going in the opposite direction. Chelsea recently introduced a new policy to hand only 1-year deals to players over 30&Cole agreed such an extension in January, which ensured he could stay until next summer. But the LB,who has been able to maintain a high level of performances despite having to cope with a chronic ankle problem that dates back to 2010,is already wanting to commit to another 12months at the club. He said: “I signed an extension at the start of the year&so have this year left&it will be up at the end of the season. I hope to stay for longer. I have had a great time here,a great career here,&of course,I’d love to stay if they still want me. “There is going to be a time when they will have to replace me. I have Ryan [Bertrand] in my place&1day I’m going to want to watch him play,so the time will come when I do finish my career.”
