Ashley Johnson nominated me for the Gratitude Challenge. Five things I am grateful for for five days. Ill do 25 things in one day instead of a grand total of 25 in five days............. 25. Restaurants and other establishments that still serve me that I havent been kicked out of. 24. The four greatest kids in the world. 23. Having two teenage girls for a combined 12 years who let me know that I have nothing in my wardrobe worthy of leaving the house in. (Editors Note: apparently I have a vomit-colored shirt.) 22. Trail Mix. Greatest snack ever. 21. AM radio. 20. Ryan Hyatt. The single greatest person to offer solid comment and observation on any single subject in the world regardless if it has anything to do with life in West Texas or not. 19. Emily Griesch. Im not a deeply religious guy, but the fact she has stayed married to Jeff Griesch all this time lets me know that there ARE saints in this world! 18. Baseball. Theyve never invented a better game and never will. If you disagree with me, well, you are human and youll never be right in everything you do, and this is one in which you are wrong. 17. Don West. My dad told me before he died that if you can live your life and look back and say you had ONE true friend, count yourself lucky. Because of this guy, I am lucky. 16. Don West. Not a repeat. Well, sort of. I stole his three-point call. And he let me. 15. Connie Yori. Single easiest coach to interview EVER. It is awesome that she is as I have only interviewed her eleventeen million times. 14. St. Louis Cardinals. If you say you are a fan of a team and you dont feel about them the way I feel about the Cardinals, then you need to reassess your use of the term fan. 13. Fans. Without fans, no one pays me to speak one word, much less two on the radio. I love my fans, I love Husker fans and I love fans who dont like what I have to say. 12. Beer. No explanation needed. 11. Margaritas. See #12 10. The US Navy. It changed my life. It made me grow up. It showed me the world. It gave me life long friends. It keeps me and you safe 24 hours a day. Along with our other services and our brave men and women. 9. NFL Sunday Ticket. 8. Stupid people. Without you, Id have nothing to laugh at every 0.9 seconds a day. 7. Central California. When Im there, Im never in a bad mood. 6. Softball players. You let me umpire your games for 30 years and five national championships. Theres never been one game I worked in which I didnt respect the game and what you brought to it. 5. Ben McLaughlin & Josh Hilkemann. The two greatest producers working radio sports. I spend almost every Saturday in the fall with them. I spend parts of two days per week in the winter on a headset with them. They are the best. If you think I sound good or something close, they are a big reason. 4. My sister, Patty Coatney Hopper. I would not be here today without her. 3. Microwave popcorn. If youre having a bad day, throw a bag in, shut the door and nuke it. Life will be better in about 3 minutes. 2. GPS. I now have much more free time because hardly anyone asks me for directions any longer. 1. The United States of America. This is the greatest country that has ever existed and it isnt even close. If you dont believe me, Im sure you havent traveled more than 500 miles outside the borders. No matter what problems you think we have here, its simply amazing and Im proud to be a citizen and to have fought for this country.
