Ashley says : So, I took my son, 7yrs, to do a med check and formal psych eval yesterday. We had gotten a double diagnosis of ADHD in the past and then started him on meds but it has been clear that there are some other things going on with him as well but we hadnt really gotten any clear idea what until yesterday. In the evaluation, the doctor asked me questions that he said were red flags for an ASD diagnosis as well. Honestly, I walked away and it felt like another blow. I didnt expect to feel weird about it, but I did. I think because I feel like he has been up against so much for so long and last year was great in terms of figuring out part of the picture that makes up all of the doctors, therapists, and school supports that now I am left feeling strangely overwhelmed again. I keep wanting the information to be helpful, but sometimes I feel like it just leaves me feeling like there are more hills to climb. I am wondering if there is anyone out there with a child who has ADHD and some form of Autism Spectrum disorder (seemed like he was leaning toward Aspergers) and has any good information about that combined diagnosis, or any suggestions about good reading. The therapist asked me if I had seen the Big Bang Theory, and I laughed because my son really likes Sheldon, but I feel like I want more than a character to relate things too.
