Asian Games 2014: A glance at the winners who made India proud on Day 10 in Incheon At the end of Day 10 of Asian Games 2014, India stands at 9th place in the medal standings with its medal tally touching 42 comprising of 6 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 29 bronze medals. India’s golden pair of Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni and golden lady Seema Punia not only made India proud but also helped India steady its position in the top-1o of the medal table. India added 7 medals on day 10 that included 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. We take a look at all the medal winners that certainly made India proud with achievements: 1. Athletics: Seema Punia won gold in Women’s Discus Throw India’s discus thrower Seema Punia won the gold medal while her compatriot Krishna Poonia finished fourth in the 17th Asian Games at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Monday. Chinese Xiaoxin Lu and Jian Tan picked up the silver and bronze, respectively. She made a throw of 61.03 in her fourth attempt that proved far better than her compatriots in the event. 2. Tennis: Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni won gold in Mixed Doubles The Indian mixed doubles tennis team of Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni won the Asian Games gold Monday defeating the top seeded Chinese Taipei duo of Hsien Yin Peng and Hao Ching Chan at the Yeorumul Tennis Courts here. The second seeded Indian pair won in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 in 44 minutes. It was Sania’s third consecutive Games mixed doubles final appearance, having won gold in 2006 with Leander Paes and silver with Vishnu Vardhan in 2010. 3. Tennis: Sanam Singh and Saketh Myneni won silver in Men’s Doubles The Indian pair of The Indian pair of Sanam Singh and Saketh Myneni won the silver medal after they lost to South Korea’s Yongkyu Lim and Hyeon Chung 7-5, 7-6 (2-7) in the men’s doubles tennis final of the 17th Asian Games at the Yeorumul Tennis Courts here Monday. The fifth seeded Indian pair lost to the eight seeded South Koean team in one hour and 29 minutes. 4. Wrestling: Bajrang won silver in Men’s Freestyle 61 kg Bajrang settled for silver after losing to Masoud Esmaeilpoorjouybari of Iran 4-6 in the men’s freestyle 61kg final at the Dowon Gymnasium. Bajrang trailed 0-2 after the end of first round but came back hard against experienced Iranian to level the points to 4-4. But the experience of Iranian wrestler helped him bail out against the young 20-year-old Bajrang who nevertheless made India proud with his glorious achievement at Incheon. 5. Athletics: Jaisha Orchatteri Puthiya Veetil won bronze in Women’s 1500m India’s middle distance runner O.P. Jaisha won the bronze medal in the women’s 1,500 metres in the 17th Asian Games at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Monday. The Indian finished third in four minutes 13.46 seconds. Bahrain claimed the gold and silver medals, with Maryam Yusuf Isa Jamal finishing first in 4 min 09.90 secs followed by Belete Gebregeiorges (4 min 11.03 secs). 6. Wrestling: Narsingh Pancham Yadav won bronze in Men’s Freestyle 74 kg Narsingh Pancham Yadav won the bronze medal in the freestyle 74kg beating Japan’s Daisuke Shimada in a play-off match. Yadav was trailing his opponent 1-2 after the first period. The second period turned out to be an interesting battle that saw the Indian make a come-from-behind victory. The Indian grappler lost a challenge in the second round giving Shimada a total of four points that also helped the Japanese open a 7-5 lead. However, Yadav was in no mood to give up and quickly drew parity at 7-7 and stretch the bout to additional 35 seconds and pulled it off in style winning 10-7. Yadav was declared the winner 3-1 on the basis of classification points. 7. Athletics: Naveen won bronze in Men’s 3000m Steeplechase India’s Naveen Kumar won the bronze medal in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a personal best timing of 8:40.39 secs in the 17th Asian Games at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium here Monday. The gold went to Qatar’s Abubaker Ali Kamal with a timing of 8:28.72 secs while Bahrain’s Tareq Mubarak Salem Taher took the silver clocking 8:39.62 secs.
