Asian equities opened little changed on Thursday following minutes from the Federal Reserves latest meeting and as caution set in ahead of key Chinese data. The mainlands June trade report is due later. Expectations are for strong results after exports surged an annual 7 percent in May, helping the country post a $36 billion trade surplus. Nikkei 0.1% lower. Japans benchmark Nikkei index opened little changed from Wednesdays one-and-a-half-week low as dismal economic data dented sentiment. May machinery orders, a key indicator of capital spending, slumped 14.3 percent on year against expectations for a 9.5 percent gain. That led officials to cut their assessment on orders. Kospi flat. South Korean shares hovered near Wednesdays one-week trough on caution ahead of a monetary policy decision from Bank of Korea. While no change is expected, traders will be watching for any commentary related to the won, which has been trading near six-year highs against the greenback.
